As challenging of a year that it was, 2020 also saw some big wins for the environment, human rights as well as society and culture. From renewable energy having a record year (it made up almost half of Britain's electricity generation in the first 3 months of 2020!) to the success of baby animals everywhere (like the elephant population doubling in Kenya from 16,000 in 1989 to 34,000 today 🐘). We just wanted to showcase our wins and share with you how you helped us in 2020 and what impact you had by joining us to #giveupthebottle. Thank you so much for your support and we look forward to reaching more milestones in 2021! Sources: 105 tonnes is about as heavy as a Blue Whale: Blue whales weigh up to 150 tonnes. The largest mammal to have ever lived, blue whales feed almost exclusively on krill — tiny invertebrates weighing about 0.000001000 tonnes each (read more here). 3,100,000 litres is about one-and-one-fifth times as big as an Olympic Swimming Pool: According to the Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA), a swimming pool for Olympic and world championship events must measure 50 m by 25 m with a depth of at least 2 m for a total volume of 2,500,000 L. A pool of this size was to be used in Olympic time trials in New Jersey in early 2008, but its component pieces were stolen from a warehouse, likely to be sold for scrap metal (read more here).
