We recently asked our fans for some furry models, but why? It wasn’t just for the joy of looking at them all (although, there was a lot of joy), but because we’re expanding our pet range! Our furry friends may be self-cleaning, but every now and then we need to give them a good scrub down. Bow Wow has been our sole dog (and horse) shampoo bar for years, and it’s worked a treat with neem, oatmeal and coconut oil for soft fur, lots of bubbles, and a yummy smell. And now we’ve added two more! Shampooch (we’re still snickering over that one) is for our super-sensitive, itchy-skinned furry pals out there. Shampooch is also safe for cats (for those of you brave enough to make the attempt) – cats don’t cope well with essential oils and this bar is completely fragrance-free. As with all our shampoo bars, Shampooch is soap free, pH balanced (for dogs more neutral skin), and still delivers the equivalent of three bottles of liquid shampoo (1.1L). The Pawfector – not to be confused with our face moisturiser Perfector, is a conditioner for dogs and horses (but not cats.) Conditioning pet’s fur?! The effort is worth it, trust me – all that silky fur smooshed on your face makes for next level snuggles. Pawfector is made with coconut oil, cocoa butter, lemongrass and lavender oils which makes for a paw-fectly subtle scent. Each conditioner bar is equivalent to five bottles of liquid conditioner (1.7L). Tips to happy washing Some pets love getting soapy – but plenty see it as a particularly cruel brand of torture. Here are our top tips for making bath time a fun time. Brush them first to loosen and break up any matted hair. Smear peanut butter somewhere they can reach inside the shower. It will distract them (hopefully) so there’s less thrashing around. Don’t use too much product. It’ll take longer to rinse and frankly is unnecessary. Don’t forget these bars are super concentrated! Avoid getting suds into their eyes and nose. Use lukewarm water; not too cold but definitely not too hot. Dogs are more sensitive than we are. Rinse well – product left on the skin may cause itchiness. If your pup has itchy skin between bath times, pop some ground flaxseed (or oatmeal) in a clean sock. Soak in warm water for 10 minutes then daub over itchy areas. The mucilage can help soothe and calm itchy, red skin. Additional notes: Keep bars out of reach between washes – dogs have been known to nom them up! If your bars are properly stored, they’ll also last longer – over a year, even. Cute, sustainable and totally compostable at home, our storage cases are the easiest way to go – but there are plenty of other options. Click here to read our suggestions for bar storage.
