\nHere at Ethique, we get called a lot of things. “Awesome!” is one of the most common. “The soap people” is another. We do have body wash bars, which are soap-based, but everything else (like our best-selling shampoo and face cleansers) are actually soap-free! \nWhat people mean really, is that we’re the bar people - everything we make is in bar form. No water means we can pack the bars in compostable packaging, rather than plastic. That’s true today, and it’ll stay true forever. \nBut there’s a bit more to it than that. Whether you’re a veteran Ethique user wanting to spread the love or a newbie who’s just stumbled upon us, you’re in the right place.\nQuick links: Who are Ethique | Sustainability | Product Range | How long will our bars last | How to use \u0026amp; store | Where to find Ethique\n \nWho are we?\nLet’s start with the elephant in the room... how do you pronounce ‘Ethique’? It’s pronounced “eh-teek”, French for ‘ethical’. The H is silent. \nEthique is a New Zealand company, born and bred in Christchurch. The brainchild of biologist Brianne West, Ethique started in her kitchen when she began experimenting with solid shampoo back in 2012. She wanted to rid the world of plastic bottles, but as the company has now grown that ambition has grown too. We want to make sustainable products the norm and we reckon we are the world’s most sustainable cosmetics. [You can read more about our story here.]\nSustainability is our jam - but what does it mean? \nWe don’t take this sustainability business lightly. For us, a sustainable product is more than being plastic-free. What’s inside the packaging and those who contribute to the bars during every stage of the manufacturing process count. But sustainability must go beyond the product, to how we run our business and contribute to our world. To us, that means doing everything we can to protect our environment, and the social well-being of everyone from the people who harvest our coconuts, to me, the person writing this blog. Oh, and we also need to look after our 352 community investors, who supported us back in 2015, so economic sustainability is in the mix too. \nHere’s some info to back that up. \nOur solid products are made with only biodegradable, palm oil-free, naturally-derived and sustainably sourced ingredients. AND as New Zealand’s highest rating bCorp (top 10% of all BCorps globally), we’re all about our people and community - our ingredients are fairly traded and we are living wage certified employers. We’re certified cruelty-free and vegan by Peta \u0026amp; CCF, and every year we donate 20% of profits to charities to support animal rescue, community education and environmental conservation. \nLinks for more information: Sustainability | Our packaging | Ingredients | Palm oil-free certification | Honest Trading | Water usage reduction\n\n \nAbout our 40+ products (where do you start?)\nWe make plastic-free alternatives to most products you see in your bathroom. There’s more to them than just being in bar form though - we know that if we want the world to switch to solid beauty, the quality and effectiveness of every product needs to be up there. \nIn 2020 we have huge plans to expand beyond the bathroom, so you can eventually make every cabinet in your house plastic-free. \nIf you’re new to our range or to solid products, start by having a nosy at our sampler range. It’s a great way to dip your toe in without having to commit to full-size bars. Our hair sampler is our best-seller with the opportunity to try our top three shampoos and our top two conditioners - the pack will last you about three months. \nHow long will our products last? \nHow long your bars will last comes down to how much product you use and, most importantly, how well you store your bars.
