Really, really good coconut oil Fair trade and organic from our partnership with a Samoan women’s collective\r\nEvery drop of coconut oil in your Ethique bars comes from a women’s collective in Samoa. It’s certified organic, fair trade and delivers profits back into the communities. \r\nBased out of Savai’i, Women in Business Development Inc (WIBDI) work with women across 183 villages to create organic-agriculture businesses. Together these small producers supply products like coconut oil, dried bananas and coffee to ethically-minded companies all over the world. \r\nThis model means we’re supporting small producers – and that comes with a number of benefits: \r\nLess environmental impact Most of the coconuts are harvested from palms already on the islands – no clearing of forests to make way for new palm trees.\r\nEconomic investment WIBDI helps families learn the processes and buy equipment, then offers the support they need to succeed\r\nTrue transparency We can visit these families and see the working conditions and farming practises for ourselves. \r\nThis approach is based on partnership with the producers, so embodies our B Corp principles. \r\nWhy Honest trade?Honest trade is about stable prices, decent working conditions and the empowerment of farmers and workers around the world. You know, basic stuff. \r\nWhen people aren’t subsisting day to day, it’s also easier to make choices that protect their businesses for the long term, like producing a higher quality product and taking steps to protect their local environment. Wins all around.
