Rosehip oil is derived from Rosehip seeds.
All rosehip is wild harvested and the oil comes almost solely from Lesotho, an impoverished landlocked country within South Africa. It relies wholly on rural communities in Lesotho, and largely on rural women, to hand-harvest it. It is a very important source of supplementary income to those women over a period of several months every year. Lesotho has a disproportionately female population because many Lesotho men work in the mines in South Africa.
