Is your skin oily, dry or a bit of both? Here’s which moisturiser bar is right for you. We know all too well that when it comes to adding hydration back to your skin, it can all seem a little over complicated with “gurus” telling you left right and centre that you need a 10 step skin care routine, that $250 moisturising miracle oil and oh, don’t forget to bathe in mud every full moon. (Okay so maybe that’s an exaggeration...but don’t tell me you’re not feeling overwhelmed by all the information & advice out there.) Truth is, it doesn’t need to be over complicated nor near impossible to have a moisturiser that does the job, while being super nice and cooperative with your particular skin type. It’s why we developed two options, each specifically formulated to suit a different set of skin needs – from working with sensitive, oily or dry skin. Palm-free, cruelty-free All our facial moisturisers are palm-free, cruelty-free & vegan and fragrance-free. They’re also tried and tested on real humans like you, so we know they work. Oily, dry or dehydrated? Choosing the right moisturiser all comes down to what your skin needs – here’s the 411 on figuring out exactly what the little critter (your skin) wants. #1 - when it comes to skin, dryness and dehydration are two different things. Yep, you read that right. Dry skin needs an oil boost, while dehydrated skin needs water. They usually go hand in hand though, because if you’re low on oil you have less protection against transepidermal water loss (TEWL). Dryness – that lack of oil – makes your skin look flaky, red, irritated and a bit scaly looking. This is a skin type – your skin naturally produces less oil. Dehydration (thirsty!) makes skin itchy and dull, brings out dark circles and means you’ll develop wrinkles and fine lines faster. Good news is, this is reversible – drink lots of water, moisturise, eat your veggies and stay away from sunshine, cigarettes and alcohol. If you’re on the oily end of the spectrum, your skin’s still susceptible to dehydration. Take a look at your forehead and T-zone throughout the day. If you get a bit shiny or greasy there, you’re classified as having oily skin. If you also have that flaky, red and irritated feeling, your skin’s probably also dehydrated. A note about acneDespite what main-stream acne brands will have you believe, oily skin isn’t always the reason you’re getting acne – it can also be your skin’s reaction to dehydration (so confusing). So, while for some people reducing oils will help a lot with acne, for others it can actually make it worse – for them it’s about keeping things clean while doubling down on the moisture. Picking the right face moisturiser Saving Face Serum Perfect for: normal to dry skin. Not as fab for dehydrated or oily skin. What it’s like to use: Saving face is a 100% oil based serum - It’s made with Cupuacu, Shea, Rosehip & Pomegranate oils. These ingredients have high concentrations of antioxidants, phytosterols, polyphenols and fatty acids - all fancy sounding words that all in all work really well to promote firm, hydrated skin. Serums are perfect for normal to dry skin as they deliver ‘nutrients’ and lock in moisture. Always best to use the Saving Face Serum over something water base (whether it’s a product containing water or simply on damp skin) or under a moisturiser. Saving Face is also unscented - perfect for those who are sensitive to essential oils! Saving Face is sold as three oval shaped bars for easy application and comes in a handy reusable box that is designed to cope with steamy conditions in your bathroom. In the warmer months, store the bars in an airtight container such as a jar in case they soften/ melt and pop in the fridge for 3-4 hours to harden if needed. What our customers say: "Deserves 6 [out of 5] stars. My skin is dry, rough and lumpy. It always has been and I thought it was just my skin. I've used every kind of moisturiser I could trying to soften and smooth it but it's not until this serum bar that my skin ACTUALLY FEELS SOFT for the first time in my life. I am in love." - Jalanda “Perfect for my fickle skin! I could tell from trying this product as a sampler that it was the one for me. I have many patches of dry and itchy skin which have persisted for years despite using many creams both medicated and not. Saving Face Serum is the only thing which makes a difference and has significantly reduced my skin issues in the few short weeks I have used it. I use it on specific spots of dry skin around my body. I lather it on thick before bed and apply lightly in the morning. Lasts on my skin for at least 6 hours at time which means I barely use any and the bars will last ages. Love being environmentally friendly as well!” - Tori The Perfector Face Cream Perfect for: Dry to mature skin & dehydrated skin. Works better than the Saving Face Serum for oily skin. What it’s like to use: The Perfector is a solid face cream and packs a hydrating punch for dry and mature skin types. It’s even been described as the 'Lewis Rd Chocolate Milk' of moisturisers by our testers (if you’re not familiar, think the creme de la crem of face creams, it won’t solve ALL of your problems, but it will solve all the dry skin ones ;) ) The Perfector is an emulsified face cream meaning it contains water and oil and is therefore better for dry and dehydrated peeps because it hydrates & locks in the moisture. Made with kokum and cupuacu butters (both renowned for their essential fatty acid contents and barrier protection), coconut oil and a blend of ingredients which help blur out any skin imperfections. It can be used in the evening as a night cream, or in the morning before makeup. If the latter, leave about ten minutes between application of moisturiser and application of makeup. If you have oily skin - The Perfector is a better option than the Saving Face serum. This is because the Saving Face Serum is 100% oil based whereas The Perfector contains both oil and water. Make sure to use less than you think you need. The Perfector is sold as three oval shaped bars perfect for easy application. They come in a reusable box for easy storage in the bathroom or in the warmer months, storing the bars in an airtight container such as a jar and pop in the fridge for 3-4 hours to harden if needed. What our customers say: "I love this product. It is so dreamy and delicious! I have found that one bar lasts me around 1 month using it twice a day. Leaves my skin soft and hydrated with a nice sheen without clogging my pores or causing a breakout. What a beautiful product!" - Rachel “This is my new favourite moisturiser. I have been using it for about a year, it actually does that thing that other products claim: "reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles". particularly good in winter - in the hot part of summer I just use it at night and use the less rich 'saving face serum' bar for the day.” -Jill S. Spotted your fav? Dry, oily or combination of both, there’s (probably) something here to suit. If you’re not sure (like, ‘I’m-a-dermatologist’ sure) which one will suit you best, our sampler pack is a good place to start – it has a sample of the serum & face cream - along with 2 face cleanser and a scrub to try, too. You can snap one up here or click here to get your hands on the moisturisers. Happy moisturising!
